Holiday Show!

Yesterday Kindergarten put on their annual Holiday Show! They worked hard to present a play, many songs, and even dances! They also recited Twas the Night Before Christmas and also did it in sign language! They did a wonderful job and I am so proud of them!

Holiday Celebrations

During the month of December, the children learned all about different holidays celebrated all over the world! Some of the holidays we studies include: Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Diwali, the Feast of St. Lucia, Las Pasadas, and the Chinese New Year! We compared and contrasted the different holiday traditions to the holiday traditions we have at home.

Thanksgiving Fun

The children learned all about Native Americans, Pilgrims, and even about colonial times! They compared the way people used to live, eat, and what they did for fun to the way we live now. They even learned Native American symbols! Then they had a Thanksgiving feast and each brought in a dish!

Harvest Unit

After learning about plants, the children moved on to a unit on the harvest. They learned that plants can grow into food and that farmers must take care of the plants on a farm. We had so much fun playing farmer and cooking lots of fun foods!

Fire Safety Week!

This week the children learned all about fire safety, home safety, and school safety! We practiced our classroom fire drill rules, practiced Stop Drop and Roll, and even had a visit from the Totowa Fire Department!

Unit on Forests and Trees!

This week the children learned all about trees and how trees make forests! They learned the parts of a tree: Roots, Trunk, Branches, and Leaves. They learned about different types of forests, like rain forests.  We incorporated the alphabet into our lessons through the story "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!" and also number order in "Chicka Chicka 1 2 3." They even researched different forest animals on the internet!

Folk Tale Land

Pictured below is an interactive board I made for the children to play with. The board features settings and characters from folk tales we read in class: Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children can move the characters around and practice retelling the stories. They can even mix up the characters for the next person to fix!
